MEPA College | CYD? Super Convention

Role: Choreographer
Company: MEPA College
Event: CYD? Super Convention – October 2025

Production Overview

Commissioned by MEPA College for their performance at the CYD? (“Can You Dance?”) Super Convention, Hip Hip Chin Chin was created as a high-energy, salsa-infused showcase for the college’s Musical Theatre students. Performed on the main stage to an audience of industry professionals, dancers, and schools from across the UK, the piece celebrated rhythm, flair, and theatrical showmanship in equal measure.

Choreographic Concept

Set to a fusion of “Nueva York” by Bad Bunny and “Hip Hip Chin Chin”, the choreography blended Latin salsa influences with contemporary musical-theatre sensibility. I wanted the piece to feel like a street-party collision between Havana and Broadway - grounded in Latin rhythm, but elevated through tight ensemble work, character detail, and playful interaction.

The dancers were challenged to find authenticity in the groove while maintaining a sharp, theatrical polish. Partner work, syncopated footwork, and dynamic formation shifts gave the number a sense of storytelling momentum.
